Wife, lover and 2 aides booked for businessman’s murder

Nov 11, 2017

MYSURU: A year after a man died, his wife, her lover and two others have been booked for murder. A petition received by City Crime Branch policeagainst a blackmailer by Kiran led cops to solve the murderof his sister’s husband which had been perceived as death due to a heart attack 13 months ago. Police arrested two persons and are searching for the conspirator-sister and her aide.

Krishna, 40, proprietor of Chanakya School, Dattagalli, died in late October 2016. His wife Radha, Kiran’s elder sister, said he had died of a heart attack at their Dattagali home. Claiming her husband would drink excessively, she told relatives she had taken him to a private hospital for treatment but in vain. Krishna and her relatives didn’t suspect foul play and he was cremated the next day.

The plot unravelled on on Friday following a petition by Kiran. He told police he was being blackmailed for weeks by someone called Manjunath who threatened to reveal details about his relationship with Radha. After the complaint reached CCB cops, the blackmailer was grilled and he revealed details of the murder.

Police investigation revealed that Krishna had been smothered to death with a pillow by Radha and three associates, including her lover Manjunath. While Manjunath and his associate Aruna were arrested, Radha and another accomplice Manju are absconding.

Radha had an affair with Manjunath and she conspired with him to eliminate Krishna, 12 years older than her. Manjunath and two workers, Aruna and Manju, entered their Dattagalli house around 1.30pm and smothered a sleeping Krishna to death. Two of them pinned him down and the other pressed a pillow against his face while Radha kept a lookout for visitors.

Krishna had been running a primary school and a mineral water plant in Dattagalli in Kuvempunagar police limits. Radha was the daughter of Krishna’s sister. The relationship soured a few months after marriage. In the meantime, she had befriended Manjunath who was in-charge of the mineral water plant. Aruna and Manju worked under him there.

CCB ACP C Gopal told TOI that Radha had taken over over administration of the school and the mineral water plant after Krishna’s death. Some months later, Manjunath, Aruna and Manju were thrown out of the mineral plant and that’s when Manjunath demanded Rs 25 lakhs from her and threatened to talk about the murderand their relationship.

When she didn’t heed his demands for two months, Manjunath called Radha’s brother Kiran recently and demanded Rs 1 crore to keep quiet. By then, Kiran, who had taken over managing the school and mineral water business, approached city cops.
