Mysuru: Senior Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) Officer D Bharathi took charge as the first woman Registrar of the century old University of Mysore.
Based on Government Order, Bharathi who was serving as Additional Regional Commissioner in Mysuru was appointed by the Higher Education Department as Registrar (Administration) of University of Mysore. Prof Dayanand Mane, In-charge Vice-chancellor of University of Mysore formally welcomed her by handing over a flower bouquet at Crawford hall.
Speaking after assuming charge Bharathi said, “I will put in my sincere efforts to provide good administration. I will work for the overall development of the century old university. Former Registrar R Rajanna has been repatriated to his parent department of History, UoM where he is a professor.
It may be recalled that Dayanand Mane had claimed that then registrar Rajanna and Deputy Registrar Vishakanta had issued employment letters to 96 candidates after throwing all rules to the wind. Hence due to the alleged irregularities in temporary appointment of non teaching posts, Mane had written a letter to the governor-chancellor and the government in this regard. Following this, governor-chancellor had ordered a probe. According to Mane, Rajanna had told the deputy registrar not to share any documents/letters in this regard with him saying that he is just the acting VC and doesn’t have the powers to ask them for details.
