MYSURU: A Muslim girl, who is in love with a Hindu boy, has sought police protection in Mysuru.

The 18-year-old girl is a resident of Rayanakere, while Hemanth Kumar, 20, is a driver and a resident of TK Layout. They have been in love for the past one year. As there was opposition from both their families, they got “married” by exchanging garlands at a city temple. Soon after their “wedding”, the couple headed to Mysuru south police station, seeking protection.

¬†As the boy is not 21 years old (marriageable age according to law), police have told the girl that she can’t marry an underaged boy. Hemanth is 20 years and three months. Later, police summoned their parents to the station and advised all of them about the legal tangle the couple is in. The girl left the station with her parents after leaving a letter with police. She has sought police help after the boy reaches the marriageable age.
