Mysuru man gets 20 years for rape and murder of toddler
MYSURU: The city’s POCSO special court on Wednesday awarded 20 years rigorous imprisonment to a man who raped and killed a toddler two years ago.
Special public prosecutor B C Shivarudraswamy, said Saddam,30, a rag picker, was arrested for raping and murdering a 30-month-old girl on October 30, 2015. The victim was the daughter of his wife’s relative, and was left with them by the girl’s father, as he had taken ill.
Saddam took the baby to a secluded place in the night, and raped and brutally murdered her. Later, Saddam called her father and told him to take her body. Saddam lived with his wife and a ward at a make-shift tent off the Mysuru-Bengaluru road in NR Mohalla police limits. He had claimed the girl died due to natural reasons, and took the body to Ambedkar Jnanaloka, where the girl’s father lived. The neighbours suspected something was wrong, after noticing injuries on the girl’s body, after which they informed the police, which lead to an investigation, and the accused’s arrest.
Saddam was booked for rape and murder under the IPC, and under provisions of the POCSO Act. He is in judicial custody since then.
Special court judge V M Pawale pronounced the sentence on Wednesday, according to Shivarudraswamy.
