Mysuru man awarded life sentence for killing wife
MYSURU: The second additional district and sessions court on Tuesday awarded life sentence to a man for strangulating wife to death in September 2014.
Judge Vijaykumar M Ananda Shetti convicted and sentenced Vishwamurthy, a driver, to life term in jail for killing wife Saraswathi at his in-laws house in Nanjangud town, said public prosecutor HD Anandkumar.
Vijaykumar through his counsel had argued that he didn’t kill wife and had accused his brother in-law for the offence. The court, which examined 28 witnesses, records and circumstantial evidences, dismissed his claim.
According to chargesheet, Saraswathi was found dead by her family members at their residence early on September 29, 2014. Her husband had absconded after killing her but later was arrested. Vishwamurthy had taken quarrel with Saraswathi doubting her fidelity before they went to sleep on September 28. Her family members however pacified both of them but to no avail. Vishwamurthy again fought with wife over same matter and strangulated her to death around 1 am.
Saraswathi was married to Vishwamurthy of Nanjangud in 2002 and the couple was blessed with two sons. Saraswathi had relocated to her parents’ house in Nanjangud following quarrel with husband few months before she was murdered. However, her husband was frequently visiting in-laws house in pretext of meeting sons. During one such visit, he killed her. Saraswathi’s mother, brother and two sons were asleep in the living room of their small house in Nanjangud town when she was murdered inside a room.
