Lovelorn gets 3-year jail for bid on Mysuru Woman’s life

MYSURU: A lovelorn got three-year imprisonment for murderously attacking a Mysuru woman in 2014. He has also been slapped with a fine of Rs 1.1 lakh as compensation.
Prakash of Belwadi,31, was convicted and penalised by II additional district and sessions court judge Vijaykumar M Anandsheeti for trying to kill Bhavya, a widow, at her residence December 30, 2014. He had attacked her with sickle inside her residence in Jayapura, Mysuru taluk after she rejected his love proposal.

Public Prosecutor HD AnandKumar said Bhavya was alone at her tiled-roof house in Mavinahalli, Jayapura hobli when Prakash arrived at her doorsteps in the noon hours with love proposal. But Bhavya had locked herself inside and remained quiet. Prakash however climbed up on the roof and entered inside the home after opening tiles. He had locked the door from outside to prevent her from escaping. Prakash threatened her before attacking Bhavya with sickle and he then returned in the same direction.

Villagers and her family members immediately rushed to her help and shifted Bhavya, who was bleeding, to hospital. Bhavya had suffered severe multiple injuries in the attack but survived after few weeks of hospitalization. Bhavya’s parents and brothers were out on work when the incident happened.

Bhavya was married to man in Nanjangud but lost her husband to an illness within three months of marriage. Later she returned to her native and started to work at a garment factory to eke out a living and support her family of five persons. Prakash, a co-worker, befriended Bhavya and then started harassing her for love. She had quit the job to escape from him but Prakash didn’t stop stalking her, explained the public prosecutor.
