Mysuru: With an aim to help the economically backward sections and poor from redundant loans and pressure of getting their kith and kin married, the district administration will be conducting mass marriages which includes inter-caste and inter religion marriage in Chamundi Hill premises on August 2.

Many people were opting for loans of upto Rs 5-6 Lakh to conduct marriages thus landing in financial debts. Hence, keeping this in mind, few years ago the district administration decided to take up mass marriage in the district. Deputy Commissioner D Randeep on the direction from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah decided to conduct intercaste and inter religion marriages.

Speaking to Newskarnataka, Randeep said, “We are arranging for 120 couples. Those interested in getting married in the mass marriage should get their names registered in their respective taluks headquarters. The taluk authority inturn will check their identities, age and other legal issues and later with the consent of both the families, approve for mass marriage.” Officials from sub register office will be present on the day of mass marriage to register all the wedlocks. Brides will be given the attires which include silk saree and Mangalasutra while the bridegroom will get peta, shirt and lungi.

Those interested to tie the knot in mass marriage should get registered in their respective taluks on or before July 20.
