MYSURU: With the arrest of four members of a family, including three women, city police have cracked two cases of devotees visiting Chamundi Hills being robbed of their valuables. The women are from North Karnataka, said cops.

The accused — Sathyamma Bhajanthri, son Nagesh Bhajanthri, daughter in-law Eshwari Bhajanthri and daughter Sheela Bhajanthri — were picked up on suspicion on Vijayadashami day when they were lurking on the hills. They were caught soon after they lifted a bag containing Rs 40,000, a gold chain and a cellphone in the temple. Explaining their modus operandi, Krishnaraja police inspector B S Prakash said that the family first identifies prospective targets and surround them to commit the offence.

Arpitha from West Bengal had lodged a police complaint about her bag of valuables that went missing on Vijayadashami.

Prakash said the arrests also helped them solve a similar case reported in 2012. Rukmini had lost her 11 gram gold chain during her visit to the temple. The family has admitted to the crime.
