HASSAN: A wild tusker, which was struck in a lake near Madihalli of Alur town, was rescued by forest officials on Monday morning.

According to the local ACF Harish Kumar, the tusker had fallen inside the lake on Sunday night as the locals reported of hearing the pachyderm’s call for help throughout the night.

“We have directed the locals not to venture outside the home in the night time due to the increasing incidents of human-wildlife conflict. So no one dared to go near the lake,” said Harish Kumar. On Monday morning, the locals informed the forest department about the tusker, which was later rescued with the help of a JCB machine.

The elephant was freed into the forest after being rescued.
