Enjoy the sight of the illuminated palace till 10 pm
Watching the Mysore Palacein its full glory when it is illuminated at night is a popular pasttime for visitors visitors to the city. Normally a short-lived affair between 7 pm and 8 pm, Dasara festivities ensure that the lights stay on longer, till 9 pm. In the past, visitors used to be disappointed that the lights would go out even as the cultural programmes continued. “Normally, the time slot between 8 pm and 10 pm is reserved for the bigger celebrity acts and the lights would go off bang in the middle of the performance and most visitors would leave the palace premises,” says Suresh Krishna, a regular visitor to the Dasara festivities in Mysuru.
This year, that will change. Palace Board Director and city Deputy Commissioner D Randeep has
decided to keep the lights on for an extra time and extend the illumination till 10 pm. A total of 96,700 bulbs, of 15 watts each, will illuminate the palace and surroundings, of which 60,000 are on the palace itself.
