MYSURU: A woman ended her life after killing her baby in a Periyapatna village in Mysuru on Sunday.
The deceased — Rashmi, 24, and her daughter Vaishnavi, 2 — were found hanging from the ceiling at her parents’ house in Muththuru village in Periyapatna taluk on Sunday. According to Rashmi’s parents, she was dejected after her husband, Murthy of Mirle village in KR Nagar, did not take the mother-daughter duo back to their home. Murthy’s relatives claimed that he was upset over his wife for delivering a baby girl.
Rashmi took the extreme step after speaking to Murthy over telephone. Rashmi’s parents were away in the field when the incident happened, said Periyapatna police, who have taken up a case of dowry
against Murthy and his family.
Rashmi’s father Ningaraju
has complained against Murhty and his parents for demanding dowry from them so he could take the baby to their home. Murthy left Rashmi with her parents in Periyapatna a week ago. Later, he allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 from Ningaraju.
In his complaint, Ningaraju said Rashmi married Murthy in 2014. “Ever since, he had been demanding money, and the torture increased after she gave birth to the girl,” he said.
Police have booked Murthy and his family members under the provisions of dowry act. Murthy has gone underground after the tragic incident.
