Charred body identified; kin alleges wife killed man

MYSURU: Two days after the charred remains of a man were found in a Nanjangud village, his relatives alleged his wife was responsible for the death.

Police found a unidentifiable body in the fields of Mahesh and Madevanayaka, residents of Kasuvinahalli, on Sunday. Police sought public help to identify the person and searched records of missing persons. Early on Tuesday, his relatives identified the body as that of Nagaraj Shetty, 36, and said his wife Mani was responsible for his death.

Nagaraj of Gundlupet, Chamaraja nagar, went missing after he left for his wife’s place Makanapura, Nanjangud to bring her back home. Mani had left home after quarrelling with him weeks ago. The couple had been married five years ago and they had a child. Nagaraj left for Nanjangud but idn’t return on Sunday, his brother didn’t return on Sunday , his brother told police. “Initially, we thought he was staying at his wife’s place. But when he didn’t turn up the next day, we tried calling him but his phone was switched off. Later, police alerted us about an unidentified body found near Kasuvinahalli which is close to Makanapura. We went there and found it was Nagaraj,” he added.

Police said Mahesh and Mahadeva nayaka called us on finding the body in their fields. According to them, a haystack had been set on fire by unknown persons and when they reached the spot, they found the body . Nagaraj’s relatives claim he may have been murdered by his wife and her paramour.The couple had been fighting over the extramarital affair. Nagaraj’s wife Mani claimed she wasn’t in the village and denied she had an affair.
