Dec 6, 2017

MYSURU\MANDYA: The commissioner of railway safety (southern circle) K A Manoharan inspected the electrified track between Mysuru and Bengaluruon Tuesday, setting the stage for introduction of electric trains between the two cities. He also conducted speed trial of an AC electric loco-hauled train.

The project will help cut down carbon footprint and also reduce traveltime between thetwo cities, according to railway officials.

During the inspection, en route stations and yards, including levelcrossing gates, were checked. A return speed trial between Mysuru and Yeliyu was also conducted. This comes days after electrification work of the 45-km stretch between Yeliyur and Mysuru was completed.

After the CRS clearance, an electric train between Mysuru and Bengaluru will become a reality. Officials said the clearance could come through in a fortnight and trains will operate either late December or early January. This will avoid the need to use diesel engines, reduce pollution and cut down travel time.
