ATM room near palace ticket counter goes up in flames, bomb squad visits site
Mysuru: Fire broke out in the SBI ATM counter in city reducing it completely into ashes in the early hours of May 12. The incident occurred near the palace ticket counter.
The maintenance staff had taken the ATM machine for repair yesterday and the fire broke out this morning. The mishap might have occurred due to short circuit, say witnesses.
Immediately, fire tenders rushed to the spot to extinguish the flames. The walls of the palace were also damaged in the accident. The palace security personnel have reviewed the situation in the aftermath of the incident.
Bomb detection squad visit
A bomb detection and dog squad along with senior police officials also visited the spot to take stock of the situation. The exact cause of the incident is unknown though it is said that fire erupted after the generator exploded.
The CCTV footages around the mishap site are being scrutinised to collect leads as the palace is considered a high security zone.
M J Ravikumar, city mayor who visited the palace, advised its administration to replace age old electrical wiring to prevent such mishaps.
What does the ATM guard say about the fire?
An ATM guard had a narrow escape since he had gone to a nearby urinal in the morning at around 5.45 am at the time of the incident. On his return to ATM, he found some policemen sleeping in the adjacent room and immediately woke them up. The cops who rushed out telephoned the fire service department. Within no time, the mobile and sleeping bed of the policemen turned to ashes as the fire engulfed the entire ATM counter within minutes, guard Shivanna said recalling the incident.
