MYSURU: DC D Randeepon Thursday said that Aadhaar will become mandatory to avail benefits provided under government schemes.

Speaking after inaugurating an awareness programme for district-level officers on Aadhaar organized jointly by E-governance cell and the district administration, the DC said crop-related compensation was paid through cheques earlier, and through RTGS subsequently. “With farmers’ bank accounts being seeded with Aadhaar, the compensation is being credited directly to their accounts now,” he said.

Aadhaar number will also be used in the distribution of ration and disbursement of pension in the days to come. In the next 2-3 years, Aadhaar will become essential to obtain all government services and benefits, the DC said.

E-governance project manager Ravikumar claimed that till today, about 6.1 crore people have obtained the unique identity number, of which 6.4 crore population is in Karnataka. Thirty lakh have people have still not applied for Aadhaar, he said.
Workshop resource person Raghu Vamshi explained the provisions to change details like spellings, date and address in Aadhaar even after getting the card.
