MANDYA/ MYSURU: A late-night joyride ended in tragedy for four students from Kerala. The students were crushed to death after their out-of-control sedan rammed a truck on Mysuru-Bengaluru highway near Kempanahalli Gate in Ramanagara district in the early hours of Friday.

The deceased have been identified as Joel Jacob, 21; Nikhit Job Sudeep, 19; Jeena and Rebecca. Joel was studying at Rajarajeswari Medical College, Bengaluru; Jeena and Rebecca were doing engineering at a Vellore college; and Sudeep was an undergraduate commerce student. Police said the victims were driving back to Bengaluru when the man at the wheel lost control over the car. It hit the divider, crossed over to the other lane, and rammed a truck head-on. All four were crushed to death on the spot.

Police had a tough time in extricating the bodies pasted onto the twisted metal of the car. The bodies have been shifted to Bengaluru’s Rajarajeswari Medical College for postmortem.
